The first video I saw about Claire attempting to make gourmet versions everyday snacks is the one that she tried to make Pocky. I’ve never saw a similar video before and I was quickly attracted by her idea of making popular snacks by using her own ways. In my mind, it’s almost impossible to make a snack that is the same as the original one without a recipe. But Claire did it! Her preciseness and patience made her complete this incredible job!
In the episode of making Pocky, Claire tasted different flavors’ of pocky and cut them apart to observe the details inside. Then, she read the ingredient list on the packaging box of pocky carefully and searched for each of them online. To make the biscuit base, she tried several times for different proportion butter, white sugar and milk. It took her two whole days to find out the great proportion of ingredients that is most similar to the original pocky. Although she has failed for a lot of times because of the discrepancy in crispness and the color of biscuits, she improved time by time without any impatience.
In the following steps, she kept making different flavors like strawberry and chocolate, and poured them on the surface of biscuit base. At first, the shape was quite different from the original. However, she tried to use various of mold and finally found the most appropriate one. In the end, it’s even hard for people to distinguish between Claire’s final products and the real pocky!
I felt extremely impressed by watching Gourmet Makes. Claire’s spirit of never being afraid or inpatient to try different ways and approaches deeply touched me. And I believe that this kind of spirit can be applied to a broader field.
