Respond to ‘Everything is a Remix’

From my personal perspective, everything is a rearrangement of different elements. Sometimes, the process of creating artwork is like a recombination of original or existed things. Reproduction of basic elements brought up many new creations.

Many new ideas are based on old things. For instance, in film industry, many directors choose to integrate some classical plots into their own films. Like in horror movies, the elements of zombie, ghosts, blood and squeal are unavoidable. Some directors just change the background settings of the film or the tonality of scenery to make it like a complete different plot.

Except from reproduction of existed things, some people also rearrange the elements like collage art. For example, a piece of melody is the basic element of a song. Some composers just change the order of different pieces of melodies and make them a brand new song. Also, when I’m designing posters for certain festivals or club advertising, I always search for some classic elements relating to the theme and reconfigure them by my own way.

In this case, we can see that everything is a remix. But different people have different tastes of art. In this case, we are building up new things based on old artistic creations. That cannot be defined as copy, but a way to obtain combine new ideas with old things. And the collision of them may bring more unexpected surprises to us!
